20 Apr 2017

Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC) donated AED4 million to Sandooq Al Watan, in addition to free insurance coverage to support the fund’s strategic objectives, during a meeting held today (Wednesday, April 18, 2017) at the company’s headquarters.

The donation comes to mark the Year of Giving 2017 initiative, announced by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and to support Sandooq Al Watan’s stated objectives, which include building a sustainable knowledge economy and supporting local talents to innovate in the field of applied research.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Mohamed bin Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, and Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Chairman of Sandooq Al Watan, along with high-ranking representatives from both sides. The parties discussed the fund’s strategy and role in driving development and encouraging innovation to find solutions for future challenges. Moreover, they explored areas where Abu Dhabi Insurance Company can contribute by offering free insurance coverage for Sandooq Al Watan.

Shaikh Mohamed bin Saif Al Nahyan said: “We are delighted to be supporting Sandooq Al Watan, which complements our support for the whole Year of Giving initiative, launched by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. This donation reaffirms our commitment to social responsibility, whereby we invest in projects that benefit the public, empower young talents to become the leaders of the future, and support the country’s continued development. We consider it our duty, as companies and businessmen, to support the UAE, and we invite other organisations and individuals to do the same.”

Expressing gratitude to Shaikh Mohamed bin Saif Al Nahyan and ADNIC for their contribution, Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim noted that Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company is the first insurer to support Sandooq Al Watan in its efforts to provide a better future for our coming generations. This reflects ADNIC’s leading role in serving society and in developing and growing the insurance sector, Lt. Gen. Tamim continued, adding: “With its donation, ADNIC sets an example to be followed by other companies in the UAE. This highlights the role of the private sector in supporting national initiatives that seek to reflect a positive image of the UAE globally.”

Sandooq Al Watan’s agenda mirrors the government’s plans for the post-oil era and the knowledge economy, which call for training a generation of innovators to place the UAE among the top 20 countries globally in terms of innovation.

The fund seeks to improve the local workforce and promote innovation in all fields. It also works to expedite the development process and involve the private sector in its efforts to encourage people to give. This social initiative reflects the cohesion between the various segments of UAE society. It resonates with the vision of the country’s wise leaders, who have called for sustainable development to improve people’s lives and ensure a bright future for coming generations.
